Before treatment

Discover what the initial steps to achieving your ideal smile look like at The Bachmayer Orthodontic Clinic.

The first step to achieving the smile you desire is booking a consultation at The Bachmayer Orthodontic Clinic. We want to make sure orthodontic treatment is right for you.

During your consultation, we will sit down with you to discuss the nature of your concerns. We ask that you please bring your x-rays and completed medical/dental history form.

This appointment is designed to inform you, in detail, about the nature and extent of the orthodontic treatment required. During your consultation, we will:

  • Explain the treatment and the types of appliances that can be used to achieve the desired result

  • Explain the length of your treatment and what you can expect at each appointment

  • Answer all your questions relating to your orthodontic treatment and discuss the financial arrangement

  • Give you a detailed booklet including your photographs

At the end of your first visit, we will put together a treatment plan for you to take. There's no obligation to embark on treatment with us, but this plan will outline the type of treatment you need, the cost, and the duration.

Our orthodontic commitment to you is to ensure you are fully informed about your treatment prior to proceeding. If you are happy with everything we discuss during your consultation, we can book your next appointment to start treatment.

During treatment

You've decided to embark on your treatment journey with Dr Bachmayer and our team so there's nothing left to do but get started!

Your fitting appointment will be one of the longer appointments with us, usually about 1 hour. During this time we'll fit you with your new braces or aligners, explain to you how to look after your braces, and what to do in an orthodontic emergency.

During your orthodontic treatment, you’ll need to regularly come into our clinic for checkups - approximately every eight weeks. These appointments are to ensure your treatment is progressing as it should and for any adjustments that need to be made.

In between checkups, it is your responsibility to look after your teeth and braces. Any deterioration of your appliance or the health of your teeth can result in prolonged treatment time. It is also imperative that you visit your general dentist for your regular dental checkups.

It is important to note that orthodontic treatment takes time and you won’t notice any significant changes for a while. Some discomfort and irritation is normal while your mouth adjusts to the braces or aligners. Any discomfort should subside after a few days.

After treatment

After your appliance has been removed, the final stage of treatment begins!

Once your teeth are in their desired position, we will issue you a custom-made retainer to maintain the results we have achieved. The retention phase is the most important part of the treatment process, because without a retainer your teeth could return to their original position.

Dr Helen Moon, Specialist Orthodontist Sydney

Orthodontic Specialist
Dr. Helen Moon is an orthodontist who has taken the scenic route to perfecting smiles. After earning her Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours) from the University of Queensland, she moved halfway across the globe to complete a Master of Science in Orthodontics at the University of Manitoba. She's now qualified as a specialist orthodontist in Australia, Canada, and the USA because why settle for one country when you can have three?

Her research has been featured at international conferences, and she's a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and a member of the AAO (American Association of Orthodontists) and CAO (Canadian Association of Orthodontists).

Dr. Moon is passionate about providing evidence-based, personalised care, with a special interest in digital orthodontics and clear aligner therapy. She has also completed the Aligner Intensive Fellowship, an advanced training program in aligner treatment, ensuring her patients benefit from the latest techniques in orthodontic care. With a knack for spotting the little details that make a big difference, she loves helping patients achieve smiles they’re proud to show off.

During her time in Canada, Dr. Moon embraced the cold with skiing, chasing the northern lights, and surviving temperatures that could freeze your eyelashes. Now back in sunny Sydney, she’s swapped snow for sand and spends her time playing tennis, scuba diving, and enjoying life without five layers of clothing.

Dr David Bachmayer

Orthodontic Specialist
Dr David Bachmayer graduated as a dentist from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, in 1979 (cum laude). After practising General Dentistry for three years, he went on to study orthodontics at the University of Toronto, where he received a Diploma in Orthodontics and a Master of Science.

Since arriving in Australia in 1986, David has maintained his private orthodontic practice in Norwest. He has been a tutor in orthodontics at the University of Sydney and has also been a visiting Dental Officer at the Children's Hospital at Westmead.

Dr Bachmayer was awarded the prestigious Harry Sicher Award by the American Association of Orthodontists for his research on children born with cleft lip and palate.

David has a special interest in clear aligner orthodontics and has received the Diamond Invisalign® Provider status. When he isn’t straightening smiles, he can be found paddling his surfski on Sydney Harbour.
