Common questions

Frequently asked questions about orthodontics

At the Bachmayer Orthodontic Clinic, communication is important to us. That is why we are always happy to answer any questions you may have about orthodontic treatment.

Here are the answers to some of the most common questions we get asked by our patients.

What is orthodontics?

Orthodontics is a specialist branch of dentistry which focuses on the alignment of your teeth and jaw. You can find out more about orthodontics and what an orthodontist does on our page, what is an orthodontist?

Do I need orthodontic treatment?

If you suffer from crooked teeth or have problems with your bite, you could benefit from orthodontic treatment. At the Bachmayer Orthodontic Clinic, we work with referring dentists, but patients can also book a consultation with us themselves. That way you can find out if you need treatment or not.

Does orthodontic treatment hurt?

No. These days, orthodontic technology has really developed so the appliances which are fitted to your teeth are small and comfortable to wear. There may be times of discomfort throughout your treatment but this can often be treated easily with over-the-counter pain relief.

How long does orthodontic treatment take?

Orthodontic treatment is very specific to the individual patient. Some patients may require major work which could take up to 36 months; other patients may only have mild treatment needs, in which case they may only need to wear an appliance for three months. By booking a consultation with us, you can find out what treatment you might require and how long it could take.

How much does orthodontic treatment cost?

We have outlined some of our orthodontic fees and treatment costs on our cost and finance page. It's important to remember that the results of orthodontic treatment can last a life time so it's certainly a good investment. We also have payment plans and finance options available to help with the cost of treatment.

Do you offer Invisalign?

Yes, we do. And in fact, our orthodontist, Dr David Bachmayer is recognised for his experience with Invisalign and has Gold ll Invisalign provider status.

Can I have orthodontic treatment as an adult?

Absolutely! At the Bachmayer Orthodontic Clinic we believe you are never too old to have orthodontic treatment. And, because smiles are our speciality, we can create the smile you've always dreamed of, no matter how old you are. You can find out more about adult orthodontic treatment in our treatment section.

Do children need to see an orthodontist?

The Australian Association of Orthodontists recommends children have an orthodontic assessment at the age of 6 or 7. Here at the Bachmayer Orthodontic Clinic we endorse this recommendation as it enables us to plan for - or prevent - orthodontic problems in the future.

Will be people notice that I'm having treatment?

If you are fitted with Invisalign aligners, chances are people won't even know you're having treatment. The aligners are that invisible! Lingual braces, which are fitted to the back surface of your teeth also go unnoticed. At the Bachmayer Orthodontic Clinic, all of the treatments we offer are the most discreet possible.
